I LOVE that this is in nice lighting & looks more professional than the old tutorials. But it's really hard to see exactly where to put the crease since her head is turned so far to the side. She has a lovely darker skin tone, but I think it would be really nice to see how to apply some different shades - or how to use a lighter touch for those with fairer skin. (And PLEASE tell people to tap the brush! This stuff is strong! )

I'm an 'old school' BE customer (and former boutique employee) - I have years worth of powder foundation, about 60 powder shadows, 7 or 8 blushes, and mineral veils of all types - so I was skeptical when this came out. Okay, not just skeptical, OFFENDED! How dare they change what's already perfect?
But since I have complete faith in the company and the products, I took the leap of faith.
I love this stuff! I use the Heavenly Face Brush for application because I like a lot of coverage to hide my 'sun damage' and it just takes a tap on the foundation to pick up the right amount of foundation. The application is much faster, and.. YAY!... there's no powdery mess to wipe off the counters! But most importantly, it takes much less foundation to get the coverage I want.
Yeah, I'm converted! Way to go, BE!

Phrases Chosen: a big miss for me
I'm really sad about this review. It's the first BE product that I've given less than 4 stars!
Right off the bat - in fact, when I opened the box - I realized that the Love Radiance would go orange on my skin tone, so I gave it to my friend. It's very bronzy, so if Warmth doesn't look right on you, this won't either.
The Brightening Sunlight Primer was a huge disappointment. It looks like a muddy concealer on my lids - it definitely does NOT brighten my eyes. I'll never use it after that first try.
The Queen Phyllis is a great color, but it's Matte in this kit. I basically tried to use it to fix the mess the primer made, but ended up having to use tons of Well Rested over the whole thing anyway. It's a 'fail' for me.
The lip balm is pretty bright & vivid. It's also a shade that you'll have to match with certain eye or clothes choices because it stands out! It's a bit much for me. I was thrilled that we were getting a green liner, and it seems okay.
Unfortunately, the only thing I LOVE about it is the little charm, but it's not worth the cost of the kit!
In all fairness, some of my friends really love this kit. They have much darker skin tones than I do, so I think that's a big factor.

So EASY to apply!

Phrases Chosen: longer lasting than flawless
I only tried this because I was curious about the 'brushless' part. I LOVE it! I always use the Lash Builder first, and this is so easy to apply over it. I have very long, blonde lashes that have a natural curl, so it's tricky to get the tops of them 'covered' with other mascaras.
My other problem is that I'm usually running behind, and since my mascara goes on last, I often smudge it at both corners in my rush. Since this wand is about the size of a q-tip stick, I can get it into tight areas without the brush hitting me in the face.
It also lasts long, and is as close to a waterproof mascara as any brands that use tars and chemicals. So having a long-lasting mascara that is actually good for my lashes is a huge bonus! Especially since I sleep in it nearly every night! (I know, I know!)
The nice part is that I can't decide which feature I like the most. It's just an all around great mascara.

This is NOT your grocery store exfoliant!

I think lots of people don't really understand this product and it's unique properties.
If I had to choose only ONE of the cleansers to take with me onto a deserted island (I use all 3) this would be it. It's a great every day, all-purpose cleanser that not only removes your makeup at the end of the day, it preps your skin for a flawless canvas when you use it in the morning.
Regarding the "exfoliant" complaints - It is NOT supposed to feel like the rough and scratchy exfoliants that you purchase at your drug store. Most of those contain things like broken fruit pits or other rough things that scratch and irritate your skin, which we all know is not a good thing. Although this does contain oatmeal as a soothing agent for dry or irritated skin, the main exfoliating ingredient in this product is the RareMineral ActiveSoil Complex - the foundation of all of the BE products.
First off, to use this, just splash your face with water, then put a blob of powder into your hand. Then use your other wet hand to move the powder around your hand to get it wet so it won't "puff" when you start to wash with it. When it gets 'creamy' on your face, that's not a negative. The 'scratchy' feeling would be.
The key is to keep 'scrubbing.' The longer you scrub, the more you'll feel the exfoliation happening - but it's kind of a learned response, since we're used to the scratch. It will just start to feel kind of squeaky clean. If you want to use it as a mask, let it sit for about 3 minutes while you do something else that needs to be done. When you rinse it off, your skin will feel softer, not tight and dry. In fact, one of my coworkers uses this all over her body once a week. True story.
Another cool thing: if you have a blemish starting & are out of the Blemish Therapy, dab a bit of water on it and then put a little of this on, let it dry & go to bed. It'll be reduced or gone in the morning.

First, I have to admit that I'm a Buxom fanatic! I own about 15 Buxoms. I love how they smell. I love how they taste. I love how they tingle. I love how they shine. I love that they have an automatic signal when to reapply - the "buzz" goes away & you know your lips are blah again!
And I love these little pocket-sized cuties!
My new favorite shades are the Marissa & the Lauren. They are beautiful pinks.
The Emily and Heather are very light - almost nude colors - and are not great on my fair skin tone when worn by themselves. So I layer them over lipstick, and they add the sparkle & 'wet look.'
Basically, these are wonderful. Perfect for carrying in my pocket.
This set would be a wonderful gift.
These little ones don't let me down.

NOT reddish like Warmth

First off, I'm really fair, but this kit looks great on me. I was nervous about the lip gloss because in the tube it looks like a melted chocolate bar. But it's gorgeous! It is a pinkish cocoa shimmer, and I love it.
The Faux Tan is not just perfect as a bronzer, but it is great for people like me - I am one of those who cannot use Warmth because it turns orange. But the Faux Tan (I've used the Matte for quite a while) in this kit stays true, and even a fair person can use a little bit of it on the cheekbones for a sun-kissed look. I would just recommend that they not only tap the brush before applying, but lightly touch it a couple of times to a kleenex to get the extra off. Of course, it you get too much, you can buff either your Mineral Veil or a little Foundation over it to bring it down a bit.
The brush is adorable. Plus, since you can cover it you can use it to carry a little bit of your product to use later - just swirl the brush in a tiny bit of powder, pop the lid on, and toss it into your bag.
Another tip - when you open it the Faux Tan pot, hold it by the sides with your fingers on the rim of the lid so the 'screwy' part of the lid won't get pulled and stripped.
Try it! You'll love it!

I work at a boutique in Sacramento, and when we had this lovely product at Christmas, a client came in with her mother and her 4 year old son. Her mother watched her as she was having her makeunder, so the little boy made himself at home. Soon he found the pretty bottle with the fun squeezy thingy & gave himself a squirt. Then he sprayed a bit onto the glass shelf. Then a bit more. Once the shelf was completely opaque, he got his 5-inch plastic car - and absolutely covered it with shimmery powder.
I'm sure they never got all of that glimmer out of the grooves and wheels of the car.

This is a great little brush to throw in your bag, coat pocket, glovebox in your car... etc.
This soft and sweet little brush is about the size of a Baby Buki. Here's a great little trick:
Swirl the brush around in your favorite Mineral Veil, Radiance, Foundation, or whatever, then close it up and toss it into your gym bag or purse for when a quick 1-time dusting is needed.
Enjoy!

How much would it hold?
These aren't sold in the boutiques & in a photo it's hard to get a feel for how much one would hold. I have a brush roll-up, so I could use the lid loops for my pencils & such. But I have lots of shadows & several blush- & foundation-sized jars, and I just wonder how much would fit into this. Thanks!

Can you use the hydrating mineral veil without this brush?
I don't have this brush but got some hydrating mineral veil. I am not sure it will work right without this special brush.
Top 25 Contributor
Hi, Shellbelle - You DO need to use the (white) brush specifically made for the hydrating mineral veil for it to work properly. The Hydrating MV has has moisture molecules that 'pop' and lose their hydration if you use a brush made with real hair. The white MV brush is synthetic & will not change the structure of the molecules. It is also manufactured so the bristles are varying lengths to pick up the MV . Non-BE brushes are usually not made to pick up & distribute their products, so it's important to use BE brushes with BE products. Good luck!

Why touch up with mineral veil?
I don't understand why you should touch up with mineral veil throughout the day and not the foundation. Thank you.

You can touch up with the foundation, too, but most people find that they don't need more coverage, just a 'freshening up.' The MV does that and also helps absorb oil. Have fun!

Can this be used with the Clarisonic?
I just bought a Clarisonic and it says not to use it with exfoliating cleansers-does this include non-harsh BE exfoliating cleansers? Or just gritty drugstore brands. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks.

Hi Sweets ~

I use all of the cleansers with the Clarisonic, and each works fine. My favorite choice is actually the Exfoliating Cleanser. Even though I have very sensitive skin, I don't have any problems. Enjoy!

Hi tmcelravy!

If you look on the BE website's homepage under "Experience," you'll find a link called "Color Addiction." It shows some combos that can give you some ideas. You can also get some ideas from other women on the Bare Escentuals Facebook page. Have fun & take chances playing and mixing up looks!

What is th best way to store collection of eye colors?
I noticed many people who ordered this collection have many eye colors - 200+.
I don't have that many - but how do you store them all? I am looking for suggestions so my collection doesn't become a big mess.

ALSO... some of the eyeshadow containers get messy on the inside if too much of the powder comes out ---does anyone out there have a solution for me.
THANKS.
Top 25 Contributor
Hi LeezaDee!

People come up with amazing ways to store their BE. Some women use fishing tackle boxes, others use big tool chests, some glue magnets on the lids & stick them on hanging cookie sheets! If you're on Facebook, "friend" the Bare Escentuals page - you'll 'meet' lots of women who can help. Some show photos of their collections, and you'll find lots of ideas.

The best way to handle the mess in the shadows is to only poke a couple of holes in the little sticker - there are 4 holes, so you might want to start with 2. If you've already taken the sticker off & can clean up the inner top of the pot, you can place another sticker on top & start over! They have the right size stickers at office supply stores.

Have fun!

How often should I clean my brushes?
I want to get the maximum life out of my brushes. How often should I clean and/or replace them?
Top 25 Contributor
Hi JaxRN - You should shampoo them at least every 3 weeks - more often if you have oily skin. The BE brush shampoo is formulated to clean and condition the bristles, so be sure to use it rather than a "people" shampoo.

It's hard to say how long the brushes will last for you - some people use them to apply or touch up their makeup many times a day, and others use makeup only on special occasions. The best gauge is the way they feel and how they 'act' - once they feel scratchy or rough, or if the hair is breaking off, it's time to replace them. (Shedding is normal for the first little while of use because the brushes are packed with extra bristles! )

do you have to continuously use the product or does it work long lasting after product is gone.. Basically is it a product i'd have to order more than once
Top 25 Contributor
Hi Angela -

Because it increases the actual cell turnover & keeps the skin new & healthy, it's a good idea to keep using it. Plus, it is all natural & gives your skin tons of minerals & the benefits of anti-oxidants. Most products are full of chemicals and oils, so the benefits are limited. I'll never quit using any of these products. They've truly changed my skin completely.

Click on the link & watch the video, and I'm sure you'll want to stick with it!

After Exfoliation...Moisturize?
I absolutely love BE products and after reading the description and reviews on this new Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser, I decided to order it yesterday. So far, everyone is saying how soft and smooth their skin feels right after applying this treatment before bed or waking up, so is it necessary to use a facial moisturizer right after too? I'm use to applying a facial mask twice a week and still use facial moisturizer, but didn't know if this product was any different, afterall, it is labeled as an exfoliating cleanser, not a lotion or moisturizer.
Top 25 Contributor
Hey, Georgia Peach!

First off, it's not really necessary to use a different mask if you're using the Exfoliating Cleanser every day. You can use this as a mask as often as you want - just wash your face and don't rinse; put your shoes on, feed the cat, whatever. It will dry in about 3 minutes & when you rinse it off, you'll be smooth and soft.

As far as whether to use a moisturizer; yes. This is just a cleanser. It won't 'dry' your skin out like some cleansers, but your skin still needs hydration to keep it supple and halt those wrinkles in their tracks.

If your skin is normal/combination (a bit of oil in t-zone) the Purely Nourishing Moisturizer is perfect. If your skin feels tight after washing it, or you have dry or flaky patches, I would recommend the Purely Nourishing Cream. Both of the moisturizers are oil-free and you can use them night and day - even the Cream is sheer enough to wear under your makeup all day.

Just remember that this Exfoliating Cleanser is NOT made with broken nut shells or rough ingredients that feel 'scrubby.' Rather than 'scraping' the top layer of your skin off (and tearing & irritating your skin), the RareMinerals Active Soil Complex (basically pure soil) massages your skin and sloughs off the dead cells.

Enjoy!

Is the Faux & Foxy great for any skin tone/color?
I have light skin and I tan but my face has a hard time tanning. If I used this product would it look okay with my light face?
Top 25 Contributor
Meagan, I'm like you - fair skin that resists tanning, sunburns easily, and then turns white again after peeling. The Faux Tan works really well, but you have to be careful because it's truly one of those "a little goes a long way." There isn't any 'orange' in this like in Warmth. For me, that's what makes this work, as Warmth turns orange after I wear it for about an hour.
